Course Description
This course introduces preventive maintenance practices used on Caterpillar branded equipment and rolling assemblies.Topics include preventive maintenance schedules, services, DOT rules and regulations, and use-ability.Upon completion, students should be able to set up and follow a preventive maintenance schedule as directed by Caterpillar.††
Learning Objectives

2.Students will be able to access, evaluate, and apply DOT requirements.
3. Students will be able to access, evaluate, and apply EPA requirements.
4.Students will determine frequent preventive maintenance issues and correct the issues
Core Competencies

Student progress will be determined by his/her progress in shop/lab assignments, homework, quizzes, and final exam and instructor evaluation.††

Attendance
Regular attendance is expected and beneficial for group discussions and the sharing of experiences.Students who do not attend class by the 10% (Census) date, will be reported as Not Attending, and will not be allowed access to the class.Due to the nature of this course, participation in discussions, activities, and exercises is of key importance.Much of the learning in this course takes place through student-instructor interaction and student participation.In accordance with the TST department, students who miss more than 20% of the class meetings will be in danger of failing the course unless special arrangements have been made with the instructor. Students may not miss more than two (2) seated classes for the duration of the class without penalty.The studentís final grade will be reduced by ten (10) points at the time
Excused absences include:Military deployment (with documentation) and emergency hospitalization (with documentation).Students at Central Piedmont Community College may take two days of excused absences for religious observances required by their faith each academic year consistent with North Carolina General Statute 115D-5(u); S.L. 2010-112, s.
Students must provide each instructor a written request to have an excused absence at least one week prior to the absence.It is the responsibility of the student to work with his/her instructor in advance of the absence on how to make up missed work.
Regular class attendance is required to remain entitled to financial aid and veterans' benefits. Faculty are required to report irregular attendance to the College which may result in the loss of benefits.
